Rear Window® Captioning : Theatres and Showtimes
This is a closed caption system. The system that Loews Cineplex is currently installing consists of a DTS film reader, a DTS CSS (Cinema Subtitling System) unit, an LED subtitle data wall and a reflector plexiglass mirror. The DTS CSS is capable of transmitting any of the following types of information: Subtitles, Captions and Narration. The units currently being installed transmit Subtitles only. Guests place the reflector plexiglass mirror into the seat cup holder and adjust the angle of the mirror for a comfortable viewing angle. The mirror is a 5 x 11-inch piece of plexiglass attached to a flexible arm with a circular base. The guest reads the subtitles off of the mirror while viewing the picture thru the plexiglass. Open Captioning systems operate for all guests in the auditorium to see. The system that Loews Cineplex currently has in use consists of a film reader, a DTS CSS unit and a DPL (digital light projector).The subtitle information is projects the information directly onto the screen.
Hearing Impaired Headsets
These units utilize either frequency or infrared transmission. Both types are in use at Loews Cineplex theatres. The Frequency type broadcasts the film's soundtrack over a transmitter tied into the auditorium's sound system. The transmitter is mounted in the projection room. The information is sent to a headset given to the guest. The Infrared type sends the soundtrack to an infrared transmitter mounted on the back wall of the auditorium. The information is then beamed to the headsets given to the guests.
